New landscaping project completed

We are delighted to present the finished front area of the building which has been landscaped, and is a huge improvement to the appearance of the Centre.

Particular thanks to Danny Cronly Landscaping and Garden Maintenance for a fantastic job done. Danny was out in ALL WEATHERS last weekend (including the rain and snow!) to finish the project for us.

Thanks also to Kildare Co Council for funding this project through the Community Enhancement Grant Scheme.

ADMINISTRATOR (Part-time) – Maternity Leave Contract

 

We are looking for applications for the following position at the Centre

 Job Title:                     Administrator (Part-Time)

Location:                    Leixlip Youth & Community Centre.

Reports to:                 Centre Supervisor and /or Members of the Board as directed

Responsible for:         Administration/Clerical /Reception/General office duties.

Liaising with:             All staff and volunteers at the Centre and Board of Management.

Purpose of Job:          Support the Operational Management of the Centre.

This is a fixed-term contract covering 6 month Maternity Leave that will start in May 2019.

Main Responsibilities:

  •  Acting as first point of contact for Centre, meet and greet  public/visitors as required
  • General Office Duties as required including telephone, email, post, preparing Diary of Activities at Centre etc.
  • Maintain filing and record systems, both hard copy and computer based in accordance with best practice.
  • Manage the relationships with a range of key users and liaising with user groups, coordinate the rental of rooms ensuring Insurance is in order
  • Supervision of the Centre as required including opening and closing of centre.
  • Keeping all admin files/information resources up to date.
  • Accounts duties and working with Surf online accounts software, issuing invoices preparing payments
  • Handling money, issuing receipts, preparing lodgements for bank, managing petty cash.
  • Procurement of goods and services as required for example ordering stationery, cleaning & maintenance supplies etc.
  • Organising and co-ordinating office operations and procedures
  • Create a welcoming ethos at the centre.
  • Any other duties which may be agreed from time to time.

Essential requirements:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Fluent English, strong written and oral communication skills
  • A high level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programmes (Excel and Word are essential)
  • An ability to work on own initiative and in a flexible manner and on occasions outside normal office hours
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • The ability to multi-task and to work to deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a community setting with groups and individuals

Person Specification – Key Competencies

  • Practical approach to managing workload within a small organization
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team.
  • Commitment to working with integrity and according to equal opportunities, diversity and information protection policies and procedures at all times.
  • Written communication skills including report writing.
  • Managing finances (budgets and expenditure) for a small organization or large project, including monitoring of funding and processing payments.
  • Initiative, good judgment and analytical skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal & communication skills
  • A commitment to the role and value of the community and voluntary sector.

 

Hours of work:

You will be required to work not more than 19 ½ hours per week.

Caretaker Receptionist Volunteers wanted

Leixlip Youth and Community Centre provides a purpose built centre for the youth and community of Leixlip. The centre provides a youth room, community hall, kitchen facilities and rooms to rent to the youth and community. The aims of our organisation is to make a positive difference in the lives of the youth and community of Leixlip, through the provision and management of a multi-purpose youth and community premises. The premises enable the community to both provide and develop a range of services and activities that will meet the changing needs of young people in Leixlip, while promoting their personal and social development

What’s Involved

The Role of a Volunteer • To support customers and users of the Centre in a polite and responsible manner. • To carry out general reception duties including dealing with customer queries, telephone duties, assist with photocopying, directing the public on usage of kiosk PC and giving assistance with the computer as required. • To handle cash as required, give receipts, and handover of money to office • In a diligent and reliable manner to open and close the Centre, locking up, setting alarms, key holding, etc • To ensure the security of the Centre is maintained, front desk presence, viewing security cameras etc • To ensure that the centre is a safe place at all times. • To participate in all training programmes provided • To assist with room setup ups as required etc

What’s required for this position

• Be polite, friendly and helpful to customers. • Be focused on customer service. • Be a good communicator. • Work well in a team – and independently when required.

Coffee Shop volunteers wanted

What’s Involved

The Role of a Volunteer • To set up the café ready for opening • To take coffee and tea orders from the customer • To operate the coffee machine • To prepare and serve hot or cold beverages, such as coffee, tea, milkshakes. • To serve scones, prepared foods, such as muffins, pastries • To help with clean up and general tidying around the kitchen • Refilling sugar, butter, jam etc and making sure there are napkins and cutlery available for customers. • To deal with customer queries, requests and problems. Report any problems to Supervisor. • Receive and process customer payments, operating a till. • To keep the machine and work area clean.

What’s required for this position

• Be polite, friendly and helpful to customers. • Focused on customer service. • Able to work well with others – it can be a busy environment at times • Be a good communicator. • Be aware of food safety. • Good at working in a team.

Youth Club Volunteers needed

What’s Involved

The Role of a Volunteer • To act as a positive role model for the young people • To support the children to join in, participate in and to have fun in all activities • To encourage, praise, respect and value each young person • To follow the direction and guidance given by the Youth Leader with regard to the safety and care of each young person • To look for support and to ask for help when the need arises • To be aware of and follow the LYPG policies and procedures. If you have any concerns that someone is not following these guidelines please discuss this with the Youth Leader. • To report all incidents or accidents immediately to your Youth Leader who will pass this information on to the relevant staff member where necessary • To ensure all young people are present and accounted for and to bring to the attention of the Youth Leader if a child is missing • To give support to the young people and to other volunteers • To participate in briefing/ debriefing sessions at the start and end of each club session • To be informed of the Codes of behaviour and Procedures • To ensure confidentiality is upheld • To arrive on time and inform the Youth Leader if you can’t make it • To work as part of a team and treat everybody with respect • To know the young people you are working with (i.e. remember their names)

What’s required for this position

An interest in working with children and the ability to work in a team are essential. Be a good observer, a good listener and respect and encourage young people and other leaders

Leixlip Community Youth Band expanding

 

Following on from recent successful gigs played locally, our newly formed Leixlip community youth band is now expanding. We are looking for kids and teens to join. Suitable for anyone who plays a musical instrument. We are also looking for students with an interest in dance and gymnastics to perform with the musicians for the Leixlip st Patrick’s day parade. All choreography will be taught at rehearsals.
