Centre reopens Monday 6th July

We are delighted to announce that the Leixlip Youth & Community Centre will reopen on Monday 6th July, after closing 16 weeks ago.

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the LYCC team Amy, Charlene, Trevor, Breda, Diana and Niall, we are ready to open our doors again and welcome our local community back to the Centre.

In line with government Health & Safety guidelines we have developed our Covid Response plan for the Centre which covers risk assessments, training staff, enhanced cleaning and disinfection measures, infection prevention and control, and dealing with a suspected case of Covid-19.

In all situations, the health and safety of those who use the Leixlip Youth & Community Centre, as well as staff and volunteers is the paramount consideration when progressing phased resumption of activities in the Centre.

What’s New

  • Wall mounted hand sanitiser dispensers located throughout the building
  • Max room occupancy guidelines for each area to adhere to social distancing, including bathrooms
  • Enhanced cleaning schedule for each area of the Centre
  • Staff will maintain physical distancing from Centre users at all times

  • Youth Club activities will not return until the Autumn
  • Parent & Toddler group remains on hold

Youth Club Summer Camps Cancelled

It is with sadness that we share the news that we have made the decision to not run our annual summer camps this year.

The uncertainty relating to Covid-19 over the past few months, coupled with Kildare Co Council’s decision not to approve funding for certain projects that involved group activities such as our camps, and combined with public health advice and social distancing guidelines, has made it impossible for us to host the summer camps this year. The nature of our summer camps cannot be replicated online.

We are hopeful our Youth Clubs can reopen during the Autumn months. The safety and wellbeing of our young people, staff and volunteers, is foremost in our minds. At all times ensuring compliance with government guidelines may affect numbers attending our Youth Clubs, as well as increased responsibilities for our Youth Club team, extra cleaning and sanitising of areas in use. We will post updates when available.

Have a happy and safe summer. Looking forward to seeing you all in the future.

Stepping Stones Transition Programme for 6th Class Students

Stepping Stones Transition Programme

Stepping Stones is a transition programme which has been in place with Kildare Youth Services since 1999. The Transition Programme aims to assist Young People in their transition from Primary to Secondary Level Education. This can be a challenging time for some young people but due to Covid19, young people this year may face extra struggles.  We feel it is more vital than ever to run our Transition Programme due to young people not getting the chance to finish 6th class in the school setting and with the uncertainty that Covid19 brings.

The programme this year will consist of a weekly online group for 6 weeks, starting the week of June 8th. There will also be the opportunity for young people to meet in person, as soon as restrictions allow and have a 1st Year weekly group in September to support young people as they enter secondary school. The aim of this group will be to support young people with issues as they arise in second level education.

The programme is designed for young people who may find the Transition process difficult and may need additional support during this period. The online sessions will focus on building confidence, fears around secondary school, building positive friendships, bullying and how to manage yourself in your new school. There will also be a focus on how young people cope with 6th class ending in a different way to usual due to Covid19.
